A Former Landfill on Old Northport Road Could Become a Truck Yard

Smithtown's Zoning Board of Appeals is set to hear a proposal that would turn an old landfill site in Kings Park into a 25 acre parking yard for construction vehicles. The applicant, Cox and Sons, wants to cap the contaminated ground on the property and pave over it to store trucks and equipment.

The site sits along Old Northport Road, a stretch already carrying a fair amount of commercial traffic. Neighbors whose yards back up to the land have raised questions about diesel exhaust, noise, and the added trucks coming and going each day. The town's planning department has acknowledged the upside of finally capping the old contamination, while also noting that more could be done to soften the effect on the houses nearby.

As News12 New Jersey reported, the town has made clear this hearing is only the opening round, with expert review and more public input still to come before any ruling.

If you live near a corner of town that is still finding its shape, it is worth keeping an eye on what gets decided down the road. Curious how a project like this could touch values nearby? Take a look at /my-home-value/ or browse /towns/ for more on what is happening around Smithtown.
