A Design Showroom and School Settle Into Kennedy Drive

A longtime design business has found a bigger home in Hauppauge. East End Interiors, which started in St. James back in 1990, moved into an 18,000 square foot showroom at 55 Kennedy Drive. That is close to four times the space the family run company had before, and it gives designers more room to pick out furnishings, textiles, lighting and rugs while working directly with staff on orders and installation.

Right next door, at 4,000 square feet, the Metropolitan Design School opened earlier this year under the same roof. Classes run small and hands on, built for people who want real training in interior design, including folks switching careers or heading back to work after time away. Local business leaders and members of the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce turned out last month for the ribbon cutting, giving neighbors a chance to walk through both spaces before the everyday work of the showroom and classroom settled back in.

It is a reminder that Kennedy Drive and the wider Hauppauge business corridor keep shifting, with trade spaces and training programs moving in alongside the usual offices and warehouses. You can read more from Long Island Business News on the ribbon cutting itself.

Curious how Hauppauge fits into the rest of Smithtown's commercial pockets? That is the kind of question our /towns/ guide can help answer.
