A Couple of Reasons to Get Out This Fall

Nothing local this weekend right in our towns, but two events worth a drive if you want a change of scenery this fall.

Over in Farmingdale, there is a potato festival heading to the state college campus this fall. It sounds like the kind of thing that pulls a crowd from all over the Island, food stands and local vendors and probably some live music mixed in. Worth keeping on the calendar if you like a fall outing with the family. Details are still coming together, so check in with Newsday for the latest before you plan the drive.

Out east in Riverhead, a longtime Latino film festival is back for its 23rd year, built around themes of courage and truth this time. It is run by a group that has been doing this a while, screening films that do not always get a big stage on Long Island. If independent film or a reason to spend an afternoon in Riverhead appeals to you, it is worth a look. More on the lineup and dates is over at Riverhead News Review.

Even on a quiet weekend close to home, it is a good reminder that there is always something worth driving to somewhere on this Island. If you are curious what is happening closer in, our town pages under /towns/ are a good place to start.
