What's Going On Around Long Island This Weekend

A couple things worth putting on the calendar if you are around this weekend.

Over in Bellmore, a long running film festival is having its 8th go around. Local filmmakers mix with ones from further out, and screenings run over a few days for anyone who likes catching something new on a big screen instead of a couch. It is not in our towns but it is an easy drive out east or west depending where you sit, and film folks seem to come back year after year. Worth a look through LI Press for showtimes and locations.

Newsday also put together its usual list of things happening across the Island this weekend, the kind of roundup that covers everything from markets to live music to small town gatherings. It is a good one to scroll through on a Friday night to see what is close enough to just show up to. Some weekends that means a short drive, other times it is something happening a town or two away that is still worth the trip. Full list is over at Newsday.

Weekends like this are part of why people end up putting down roots around here. If you are curious what that looks like town by town, /towns/ has more on each one.
