Suffolk Diving Title Comes Through Kings Park

A Suffolk girls diving championship was decided this week at Stony Brook University, and the winning score came from a swimmer tied to the Half Hollow Hills and Kings Park co-op team. Eleven dives, a pool record, and a ticket punched to the state championships in Webster later this month. That is the kind of result that gets talked about at the diner counter for a while.

The meet stayed close through the early rounds, with a few swimmers in range of their first county title after last year's champion graduated. A new, harder dive added in the weeks before the meet made the difference down the stretch, and a second local qualifier, from the Hauppauge Smithtown team, will also head to states. Both athletes had put in extra work over the summer, the kind that shows up on a scoreboard months later.

It is a reminder of how much is happening in and around our pools and gyms this time of year, mostly outside the headlines. If you are curious how Kings Park or Smithtown stack up for families who care about that kind of thing, our town guides are a good place to start. And if a big season like this has you thinking about space, a pool, or just a fresh start, see what your home might be worth these days.

Congratulations are in order around Kings Park this week. Read more from Newsday.
