A Night at The Watermill for Long Island School Staff
The Watermill in Smithtown hosted a ceremony last month honoring 29 school employees from across Long Island. The Long Island Coalition Against Bullying gave out its 2026 Long Island School Hero Awards, recognizing staff nominated by parents, students and coworkers from their own districts.
Two of the honorees work within Smithtown schools, part of a list that stretched from Bayport-Blue Point to Woodbury and included teachers, administrators and support staff. The coalition's director said the honorees do this work without looking for recognition, which is part of what the award set out to mark.
The Watermill sits along Route 25A and hosts events like this fairly often. Newsday has the full list of honorees and their districts.
If you are curious what else sits near that stretch of 25A, the town guide at /towns/ walks through it.
